Muscat: A ministerial decision on the standard specifications for Omani traditional dress has been issued.
Dr. Ali bin Masaud Al Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry, issued the ministerial decision making the standard specifications on the Omani Dishdasha “an obligatory Omani standard specification”.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has in cooperation with the Public Authority for Craft Industries (PACI) set a standard specification on the Omani traditional dress “the Omani Dishdasha” for men.
During the preparation of the standard specification, the ministry’s personnel visited several Dishdasha makers and tailors with long experience in the field and listened to them to identify the words used for the various parts of the Dishdasha in the various Governorates.
The specifications comprised the definition and parts of the Dishdasha. The Dishdasha is classified into five types used in the various governorates.
The specifications have identified the textile used for each type and the names of the parts and requirements of each type.
