Muscat: Repair shops for refrigeration equipment, air conditioners and other equipment that affects the ozone layer, should obtain a license from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA).
The license fees range from OMR 20 for small institutions to OMR 50 for larger companies.
The MECA said while announcing its decision, "All establishments engaged in the maintenance, repair and servicing of refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment shall obtain a license from the competent authority."
Article 12 of the decision states, "Establishments are prohibited from using adulterated or substandard materials and they should ensure the quality and appropriateness of materials used in repair and maintenance works." Failure to comply would attract a fine of OMR 200.
"Establishments prohibited from using recycled materials in the repair and maintenance process unless the materials are of high quality, free from impurities and contaminants and in accordance with the technical standards determined by the competent authority."
"In all cases, invoices for the purchase of such materials and certificates of quality inspection shall be maintained," the Ministry added in article 13 of the decision.
