Muscat: Classic cars, test driving and raffle prizes are among the activities at this year’s Oman International Motor Show, beginning on Wednesday.
More than 12 auto brands will display hundreds of cars this year. The new 2017 Toyota Corolla, as well as the Lexus IS 2017 will also be unveiled at the show.
Several activities are in store for visitors, with the Toyota pavilion featuring a virtual reality experience at the Prius display, a game called “Crack the QR Code”, and raffle prizes that give visitors the chance to win a Samsung Galaxy S7, a Nikon D5200 DSLR camera and an LG-43 inch LED TV, among other prizes. Similarly, the Lexus pavilion will award free tickets every 30 minutes to the VOX Imax. Additional activities include test drives, the outdoor Land Rover experience, road safety demonstrations and a sand art performance. A general raffle will also take place, promising the grand prize winner a 2017 Toyota Corolla.
Explaining the show’s popularity, Nader Abbas, General Manager of Omanexpo said, “The potentials and investment opportunities in Oman’s automotive market, and the increase in GDP growth in recent years, accompanied by higher income resulting in higher car ownership rates per household and a fast-growing population, has led to Oman being an increasingly vital market for manufacturers.”
“Over the years, there has been an increase in the number of players, especially top global companies, entering the local market. This, and the significant increase in demand for vehicles and automotive parts and components, had led to the rising demand for global vehicle production,” he added.
A new addition to the motor show is the Auto Excellence Award. It seeks to provide consumers with sound comparative information on vehicles, and award respective brands for their efforts and achievements, as well as providing a platform for companies to promote their brands and establish their position in the market.
The Auto Excellence Award is judged by a panel of automotive experts and journalists, whose opinions are the most-sought after in the region, making it the most unbiased, credible and prestigious award of its kind.
The four day event will take place on 7 and 8 December 2016 from 10am to 1pm, and again from 4:30pm to 9:30am, as well as on 9 December from 3pm to 11pm and 10 December from 10am to 7pm at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center.
