40 Omani jobseekers to get digital training

Muscat: BP Oman’s Social Investment Programme has renewed ties with SAS Centre for Virtual Reality (VR) to deliver a specialist digital training initiative for 40 Omani jobseekers qualified in the field of information technology.
The three month project is focused on boosting participants’ competencies in digital media, an area of expertise that continues to see increased demand for quality output across the local job market. By developing greater specialism, participants will also have the option to start their own business.
“As the demand for technological integration continues its widespread trajectory across almost every modernised industry, the skills required of employees and businesses are becoming more digitally focused. By boosting the skill sets of Omanis in the area of information technology we are raising their potential of gaining future employment, both locally and internationally. We have run this programme for several years and have seen tangible results for the participants,” said Shabib Al Mamari, Communications and External Affairs Manager,BP Oman.
SAS VR’s project-based training scheme brings relevant experience to the table, featuring a diverse pool of qualifications in graphic design and animation software. Subject Matter Experts from the Ministry of Education will support the training initiative as they explore new digital opportunities to enhance education through eLearning with participants.
Elias Tang, Director of the SAS Center for Virtual Reality and Managing Director at ASM Technologies, commented, “The emphasis on real world projects that are deployed and implemented to real customers is what differentiates this training programme from others. This creates a more credible portfolio for our participants in terms of their future job applications and thus works towards supporting the drive for the capacity building of local professionals within a global industry.”
Furthering the development of Oman’s digital specialism, SAS Centre for Virtual Reality, part of the Information Technology Authority, has trained more than 400 Omanis in VR applications and online media. The centrehas extendedthe scope of BP Oman’s Social Investment Programme and its ‘Implementing Partner’ INJAZ Oman have deliveredfor two consecutive years training 90 jobseekers in virtual reality technologies.
