Oman's Orpic bags downstream project of year award at regional event

Dubai: Oman Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) received the “Downstream Project of the Year” award 2018 at the Oil and Gas, Refining and Petrochemicals Middle East Awards (RPME) ceremony that was held in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Andres Suarez, General Manager of Orpic Logistics Company (OLC) pointed out that winning this award reflects the importance of the Muscat-Sohar Product Pipeline (MSPP) project and Al Jifnain Terminal for the integration of the logistics system in the Sultanate.
He added that winning the award will motivate them to continue our efforts to achieve the company’s vision namely to compete in the world markets in the field of refineries and petrochemical industries with Omani efficiencies.
This Muscat-Sohar Product Pipeline (MSPP) project and Al Jifnain Terminal, into which USD 336 million have been invested, involves important logistics infrastructure, which allows the transportation of more than 70 per cent of the country’s fuel through the modern storage installation of Al Jifnain, as well as satisfying the future domestic demand for fuel.
This project also contributes to the improvement of road safety and the reduction of pollution and traffic congestion in Muscat.
In addition, the impact on the local economy has seen $149 million be spent on local purchases and contracts with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Sultanate. This figure represents 44 per cent of the total cost of the project, in addition to about 170,000 cubic meters of storage capacity, which will enhance the Sultanate’s storage capacity of refined products by 70 per cent.
