ISG U-19 boys win CBSE Oman Cluster football title

Muscat: Indian School Al Ghubra (ISG) outlasted Indian School Darsait (ISD) 5-4 in penalty shootout to emerge champions of the CBSE Oman Cluster Football Tournament for the under-19 boys here recently.
The tournament, organised by Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir (ISWK) at Muscat Club, saw participation of Indian schools from across the Sultanate.
The ISG U-19 boys will now travel to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to take part in the CBSE National Football Championships in December.
Earlier in the quarterfinals, ISC boys defeated Indian School Nizwa 4-1 thanks to goals from Shiraaz Shamsu, Antony Babu, Tarang Ponnana, and Aryan Sanjay Shinde.
In the semifinals, ISC edged hosts ISWK 1-0 with the Aryan Shinde scoring the match-winning goal while goalkeeper Deepash Shukla came up with a crucial last minute penalty save.
In the thrilling final against ISD, Shiraaz Shamsu gave ISG an early lead. But ISD managed to score the equaliser towards the end of the match to take the match into penalty shootout.
In the shootout, the ISG boys kept their cool to win the match 5-4 and with that a place in the the CBSE Nationals.
The ISG U-19 team comprised Antony Babu, Saurabh Pujari, Shiraaz Shamsu, Tarang Ponnana, Thejas Sasikumar, Abin Titus, Sriniketh Sajeevan, Aditya Kamath, Shaun Rosario, Arsal Usman, Soofi Omer, Alwin Antony Ignatious, Deepash Shukla, Ashwin Sankar, Aryan Shinde, Adhil Mohammed, Jonathan Pinto, Shane Pinto and Ajinkya Shanbhag.
The management, staff and students of ISG congratulated the entire team, PE Department Head Afzal Sher Khan and coach Murugan on to a well-deserved victory.
