Muscat: The Ministry of Health has launched a comprehensive national survey on vector-borne diseases. A team from the Ministry of Health will visit homes and examine potential mosquito breeding sites.
According to the ministry, the insect survey aims to detect the potential breeding sites in order to prevent infections, in cooperation with the control team of other participating authorities.
Dr. Saif Al Abri, DGDSC Director-General said: “Dhofar has been chosen to launch the National Vector Survey for its geographical diversity, the existence of urban, steppe and mountains areas that help in training the team members from other Governorates.”
The Ministry, in a statement, requested the cooperation of citizens as field survey teams visit their homes to take stock of the possible places for breeding mosquitoes in the courtyard and around the house.
The National Vector Survey aims to establish an accurate database about vectors, and to achieve the integrated and successful management of these vectors.
The ministry added: “The areas to be surveyed will be announced in advance via social media. Teams will survey all sites in the advertised location including houses, structures, farms, streets, drainage channels, open courtyards, and beaches.”
The launch ceremony of the National Survey, which is running for two-weeks in Salalah, was held under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health, in the presence of Dr. Akjimal Magtimova, World Health Organization Representative to the Sultanate.
