Muscat: Sri Lankan nationals living in Oman who wish to urgently speak to their ambassador to intervene in matters that require his help can now do so.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Oman has introduced a number of channels through which Sri Lankans in the country can communicate with their envoy, such as through social media and hotline facilities.
Speaking to Times of Oman, OL Ameer Ajwad, the ambassador of Sri Lanka to Oman, said, “I have introduced some modes of communications between the embassy and our community using social media, hotline facilities and other platforms to directly engage and reach out to them to provide better services to the community.”
He said that the initiative had prompted productive feedback and engagement from the Sri Lankan community in Oman. “We have a vibrant community in the Sultanate of Oman of about 30,000 Sri Lankan nationals including professionals, skilled workers and domestic helpers. But it is a well-established community, some living here for 30 years and some for 40 years, so, it is a very dynamic community. We are also doing our best to contribute towards the development of this great country across various fields and aspects,” he said.
In addition, Ajwad said the embassy was also planning a series of joint events to celebrate the golden jubilee of Oman’s National Day next year. “Next year, Oman is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its National Day and we are planning a series of events to celebrate this and show our solidarity with Oman’s society. It will be organised throughout the year in collaboration with the Omani and Sri Lankan societies.”
Talking about the way forward, the ambassador said he was going to take advantage of the two countries’ strategic locations that could bear fruits at both ends.
