Muscat: Travellers coming to Oman with controlled medicines or even prescribed medicines are required carry relevant documents, according to a document released by Ministry of Health said.
According to the document, visitors carrying medicinal products containing narcotics/psychotropic medicine should be accompanied with:
Medical report: The traveller should carry amedical report from the institution where the patient is getting treated and it should not exceed six months from the date of issue. The medical report should include all the patient's relevant information including name, age, medical diagnosis, names and strength and dosage of medical product and lastly the total quantity of each medicine.
Apart from the medical report, the patient should also carry a valid prescription that does exceed six months from the date of issue and must contain all the patient's relevant information as well as the stamp and signature of the doctor who prescribed the medication.
Copy of passport or personal ID:Approval will only be granted if the medication is sufficient for one month use and should be strictly for personal use. In case the quantity exceeds the quantity for approval, the patient will be required to visit a health establishment in the Sultanate to ensure that the medicine is still needed and in the event that it is, a prescription will be issued for the same medicine or its registered alternative.
Authorization letter:If the medication is brought in by a patient's relative, a copy of ID and written authorization from the patient will be required.
This is all applicable to all the visitors or expatriates, approval will be granted for the intended stay or for a maximum of one month. Should the quantity imported exceed the approved amount, excess medication will be destroyed under the supervision of Department of Drug Control.
Regarding products not containing any Narcotic/Psychotropic substances, it is still necessary to carry a medical report and approval will be granted for quantities sufficient for a maximum of three months.
