With Oman’s National Day less than 24 hours away, your Times of Oman has compiled an indispensable guide to the events and attractions coming up this weekend, starting from tonight.

Jam-packed with offers, deals and activities for everyone, there has never been a better time for the people of the Sultanate to come together for a holiday weekend in praise of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said on National Day and to celebrate his birthday.
Split over four days of fun, Thursday through Sunday, our list includes special offers from some of Oman’s best known companies like Omantel, Oman Air and Ooredoo.

November 17 | Thursday
Traditional bands, skating displays and handicrafts exhibition Venue: Tilal Al Qurum Complex
Time: 3.30pm
Celebrate the National Day with Alargan Towell Investment Company at their building opposite Qurum Park with activities like dog shows, skating displays, traditional bands and handicrafts exhibition and children’s activities including henna, stalls and gifts.

Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa will host the celebration, where in-house guests, families and children will be welcomed to celebrate National Day with an evening of activities and performances at the resort’s Al Midan Amphitheatre. Also during this celebration, the talented chefs at the resort will be unveiling their 46th National Day cake to mark the occasion.
Omani folk dancing, poetry,school performances

In the presence of the guest of honour, His Highness Syed Doctor Adham Bin Turki Al Said, the event will include a local school performance and poetry recitation, plus performances by an Omani Folk Dance Band. The event will showcase the 46th National Day cake cutting ceremony.

November 18 | Friday
Fireworks
Venues: Al Amerat, Al Seeb, Salalah
Time: 8pm
The fireworks in Al Amerat will be organised at the Al Amerat Heights, in Al Seeb at Wadi Al Khoudh and at the Municipal Entertainment Centre in Salalah.
Laser Show
Venue: Royal opera House Muscat
Time: Evening
Enjoy the laser ballet at the Royal Opera House and prepare to get there early to avoid the jams
'Oman in LEGO Bricks'
Venue: Avenues Mall
Time: 5pm
Families can build a giant map of Oman made entirely of more than 200,000 LEGO bricks from 5pm – 10pm on Friday. Two certified LEGO master builders have been flown in from the United Kingdom to oversee and facilitate the construction of the Oman LEGO Map. Additionally, there will be kids’ workshops and competitions involving 400,000 LEGO bricks, as well as 1,500 Omani Flags made from LEGO bricks to be given away.

RAF Red Arrows

The RAF Red Arrows show will be one of the highlights of the weekend. The InterContinental Muscat will be at the centre of the show and gearing up with food, fun and great views.

Schoolchildren’s performance
Venue: Anantara Jebel Akdhar
Time: 10am
Children from a local school in Jabal Akhdar will celebrate the occasion with a local performance along with Omani staff. Additionally there will be a Geocaching activity organised for children from the school as well as our guests by our recreation team.

Oman Air is celebrating the country’s 46th National Day with the launch of a Facebook competition for three lucky winners to receive return flight tickets from Muscat to Europe, India or the GCC. Oman Air is welcoming photo submissions via its Facebook page that demonstrate the ‘My Oman National Day’ theme of celebrations, decorations, costumes, the Omani national flag, community gatherings and special events. The contest is open till November 30 and winners will be announced on or around December 4. Upgradation
To celebrate Oman’s 46th National Day, Oman Air, the national carrier of Oman, is offering 46 passengers free upgrades from Economy Class to Business Class, as well as access to the Business Class lounge at Muscat Airport. The promotion will run between the November 17 and 20.

Indian Schools will also be celebrating their National Day of the Oman. “Each school plans their own celebrations,” said Wilson V. George, Chairman, Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman.

Bangladesh Social Club
Bangladesh Social Club will celebrate National Day in style at Al Falaj Hotel on December 1, 2016. “There will be cultural event where various artists will perform from 8.30 pm onwards,” President of the Bangladesh Social Club Muscat, Mohammed Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan, said.

Pakistan Embassy
Weeklong celebration of H.M. Sultan Qaboos birth day and 46th National Day, with events organized in the 7 cities of Oman from 18-25 November.
Students to celebrate at Penn. State University
The Omani Students club at Penn. State University in Pennsylvania is also celebrating this weekend. At 12:30pm on Saturday, Omani students will host their event to mark Oman’s 46th National Day in the Alumni Hall. The Omani Students club has stressed that all are welcome to the celebration. They invite anyone interested to, “Make sure to let your friends know about it and join us for a taste of Oman’s culture and food”.
