Oman weather: Tropical storm Maha develops into cyclone

Muscat: Tropical storm Maha develops to first category cyclone and it is about 850km away from Oman’s coastline, the Public Authority of Civil Aviation has informed on Sunday. However, there will be no direct impact in Oman over the next four days. “The tropical storm (Maha) located in the middle of the Arabian Sea is evolving into a first-class tropical cyclone with winds around the center reaching 65 knots and is currently 850 km away from the nearest point in the Sultanate (Ras Madrakah) as it continues to move north/northwest towards the center of the Arabian Sea,” the statement from PACA said. In its latest weather bulletin, PACA said Maha is likely to change its course towards Indian coast within 48 hours. “And there is no possibility of any direct impacts to the Sultanate over the next four days,” the statement said. “Rain clouds are likely to flow to south Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta coasts on Tuesday, November 5, and rough sea will continue on South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates and will reach a maximum height of 4 meters,” PACA added.
