Cyber security training for ministry staff in Oman

Muscat: Ministry of Education (MoE) employees learnt to spot cyber security threats at workshops on IT security.
Represented by the Directorate General of Human Resources, the MoE trained its employees and the educational directorates in the governorates on the basics of information technology security at the College of Law at Sultan Qaboos University.
Ahmed Al Amri, studies and follow-up member at the DG of Human Resources and the program’s supervisor, said, “This programme is designed to raise awareness about security for computer users and associated networks in the office or at home, and learn to protect themselves and the institutions they work in through the safe use of these devices, networks, and information management.
“It has become necessary to make all information technology users among the Ministry’s employees aware of security threats, such as viruses, hacking, fraud, and identity theft,” he added.
Al Amri noted that the programme provides the ministry staff with the skills necessary to deal with the challenges being faced, due to the nature of their work with regards to information security, data handling and confidentiality.
The programme also helps employees to recognise data threats from employees, service providers and outside individuals, as well as understand the essential features of information security, such as confidentiality, safety and availability.
