Tennis: Oman U-16 team win silver at GCC Junior Championships

Muscat: Oman under-16 team bagged silver medal at the GCC Junior Tennis Championships in Qatar on Friday.
In the final of the tournament played in Doha, Oman team lost to Kuwait by a 2-1 margin. Abdullah Al Barwani gave Oman the lead with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kuwait’s Fuad Al Bahbahani.
However, Zakariya Al Sulaimani lost to Badr Antar 4-6, 2-6 and the double the team were beaten 2-6, 6-2, 6-7 by their Kuwaiti counterparts.
Earlier, the Omani under-16 team defeated Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Oman’s Abdullah Al Barwani was declared the best player of the tournament.
The team also comprised Ammar Al Khanjari and Iyad Al Khanjari.
The Sultanate’s under-12 team, consisting of Marwan Al Khanjari, Isa Al Sulaimani, Tawad Al Riyami, Abdullah Al Hashmi and Ali Al Busaidy, finished in fourth place.
