According to the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA), “Kyarr — in the Arabian Sea — has been downgraded to the second degree with wind speeds around the centre between 85 to 95 knots. The latest analysis shows possibilities of the cyclone’s west to northwesterly movement towards the Sultanate’s coasts during the coming 48 hours. Following that, the movements will be southwesterly parallel to the Al Sharqiyah coasts and that of Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.
PACA said in their latest weather report, “The centre of the tropical cyclone will be as close as 200 km from the coasts with no chances of crossing the land.”
In an online statement, Oman News Agency said: "The tropical cyclone will gradually decreased to the first degree on Wednesday 30 October, indicating that during the next 24 hours will form another tropical situation as expected.”
Royal Oman Police (ROP) said: “Traffic was closed on the Muttrah road, sea road, because it was affected by sea water due to rising sea levels.”
ROP warned the users of the Mutrath road to go through the highway Drasit - Al Wadi Al Kabeer to Al Bustan road.
PACA also warned of indirect effects that will likely begin by on Wednesday evening. PACA forecasts cloud advection occasionally accompanied by thundershowers and fresh winds over South Al Sharqiya, Al Wusta, and Dhofar. Rough sea conditions are also expected along the coastlines of the same governorates, with a maximum wave height ranging between (four to six) meters, with chances of water inundation over low level laying coastal areas.
A statement by Oman's Health Ministry read: “The emergency health operations rooms in the affected governorates coordinate and follow up with the civil defence subcommittees in each governorate on the developments of the tropical situation and its impact on the governorates.”
The Nation Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre is still closely monitoring and analysing all updates regarding Kyarr.
The public are advised to follow PACA’s latest weather bulletins and avoid going out to sea.
