Weather watch: Tropical depression evolves into storm, Oman sea to remain calm

Muscat: The tropical situation east of the Arabian Sea near the Indian coasts, has evolved into a tropical storm on Friday and has been given the name Kyarr. On Thursday, the tropical situation had worsened into a deep tropical depression by evening with wind speeds reaching 28-33 knots according to the Public Authority for Civil Aviation.

In an online statement, PACA said, “Tropical conditions east of the Arabian Sea have evolved into a tropical storm called Kyarr with wind speeds (34-45) knots around the center.”

However, weather across most parts of the Sultanate is expected to remain clear on Friday. In its forecast, PACA said, "Mainly clear skies over most the Sultanate with advection of high and medium clouds over coastal areas of Arabian Sea and chances of cloud development over Al Hajar mountain during the afternoon. Chance of late night to early morning low level clouds or fog patch formations along the coastal areas of Arabian Sea and Oman Sea.”

PACA said: “The state of the sea on the Arabian Sea shall be calm to medium and shall be calm on the Sea of Oman and the coasts of Musandam."
