One ingredient five ways: Vermicelli

Vermicelli is a type of pasta which comes in various forms. From milk, soups, salads, pies, pilafs, with chicken, vegetables, and sweet dishes, vermicelli can be used in different dishes.

Vermicelli Pie
Cook 1 packet vermicelli and drain. Stir 2 tablespoons butter and 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese into the hot vermicelli. Add 2 well beaten eggs, stir well and bake at 350 degrees uncovered, until set. Set aside. Crumble 500g ground beef, in a skillet. Add 1/2 cup chopped onion and 1/2 cup chopped green pepper. Cook over medium heat until meat is browned. Stir in 1 can stewed tomatoes, 1 can tomato paste, 1/2 teaspoon garlic sauce, 3/4 teaspoon dried whole oregano, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Cover and cook for about 10 minutes over low heat; set aside. Spread 1 cup cream cottage cheese, evenly over pie shell. Top with meat sauce, cover with aluminium foil and bake at 250 degrees C for 15 minutes; sprinkle with 1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese. Bake until cheese begins to melt. Garnish with 12 slices pepperoni and chopped parsley. Bake uncovered for about 5 more minutes.

Vermicelli Pilaf
Take 1 cup rice, 1/2 cup broken vermicelli, 3 tablespoon dried chives, 3 chicken seasoning cubes, 1 teaspoon thyme leaves, 3/4 teaspoon onion salt. Melt 3 tablespoons butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add all the above ingredients and sauté until light brown. Add 2 1/2 cups water and simmer, covered, until rice is tender for about 25 minutes.

Vermicelli Soup
Take 4 leeks and cut lengthwise. Sauté it in 3 tablespoons butter for 15 minutes in a pan. Add 2 tablespoons flour and cook for 10 minutes. Separately in a pot boil 4 cups chicken stock, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Add a cup of this broth into the flour and leek mixture. Add 2 cups milk to it and cook gently, for 10 minutes. Boil the stock again and add 1/2 cup broken vermicelli and cook until soft. Add this stock to the flour mixture. Serve hot.

Vermicelli Salad
Take 1 packet vermicelli and break it and follow instructions for cooking. Drain under cold water to prevent sticking. Add 5 hard boiled eggs, 5 celery stalks finely chopped, 1/4 small yellow onion finely chopped, salt to taste, and 11/2 cups mayonnaise. Mix well. Refrigerate. Take 2 cans shrimp, drained and chilled. Before serving, add shrimps to the mixture, and sprinkle 1 teaspoon of paprika. Serve chilled.

Chicken Vermicelli
Take 500g chicken and cut into pieces and cook until tender with 2 cups of chicken broth. Take 1 cup of broth from it and cook 2 cups of vermicelli in the remaining broth. In a separate bowl combine 1 can cream of soup, 1/2 cup milk, 1 cup of chicken broth and 1 cup of cheese and allow to melt over low heat. In a baking dish layer it as follows. Vermicelli, 1/3 cheese sauce, and chicken. Sprinkle salt and pepper. Top it with the remaining sauce and bake for 30 minutes at 200 degrees C.
