If you’re looking for an adrenaline boost while in Oman, that is exactly what you get while you are on the vast expanse of Oman’s deserts. The massive dunes that the Sultanate is famous for do a better job than a roller coaster in giving you the thrill while the visual appeal of the golden sands glistening in the sunshine make you want to stay longer. One of the best places in Oman to experience dune bashing is Bidiyah, on the edge of the Sharqiyah Sands, located some 233km from Muscat.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the town is about “a three- to four-hour drive from Muscat. Bidiyah is in the Wahiba Sands Desert, the most popular destination in Oman for dune-bashing, desert-crossings, and camping. No visit to Oman would be complete without seeing these spectacular seas of sand, and there are other historic sites and natural wonders in the surrounding areas of the Sharqiyah region, including the waterfalls and river of Wadi Bani Khalid. Bidiyah is the village that serves as the jumping-off point for the region’s tourism.”
“Bidiyah is a collection of villages at the edge of the Sharqiyah Sands. Home to Bedouin people from the desert, it is the perfect place to experience traditional camel or horse races or visit its famous Eid market,” added the ministry.
