Bids process for a third Oman telcom player to begin this month

Muscat: Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has invited companies to bid for a third license to provide mobile services in the Sultanate.
“TRA announces the commencement of the process to award a third license for the installation, operation, maintenance and exploitation of a telecommunication system to provide public mobile telecommunications services,” the TRA said in a statement.
According to the press release, the TRA on November 15 will announce on its website www.tra.gov.om details on how to register a bid.
The TRA said it considers the enhancement of competition in the mobile telecommunications service market a must.
“It will be of significant benefit to the consumers and to the economy of the Sultanate,” the TRA said, adding that this is consistent with the general policy of the government and TRA’s mandate “to promote market entry under the telecommunication regulatory act.
