Muscat: A special unit for students with disabilities was inaugurated at the Sultan Qaboos University, College of Arts and Social Sciences.
The project is funded by Oman Liquefied Natural Gas as a part of their social responsibility. The unit includes a disabilities unit and a library for those with visual disabilities called the "Noor Al Baseera".
Oman LNG said in a statement: "Oman LNG Development Foundation has financed the development of Students with Disabilities Unit at College of Arts and Social Sciences and a Visual Disability Library called “Noor Al Baseera” at SQU Cultural Centre."
The unit includes a special laboratory with the latest devices for the visually challenged. The lab has automatic doors and sensors for all pathways in the college as well as for elevators, classes, and offices.

Dean Dr. Mohammed Al Balushi said, "We have about 100 disabled students in the college. The laboratory is very important to make it easy for students with special needs to study and get knowledge." He added, “We are very glad to build this laboratory to help our students and we hope that they get the needed assistance.”
Ali Al Kindi, a visually challenged student in the college, said: “This laboratory will give us the opportunity to understand our courses and it will give us the access to get what we need to study properly."
The event was held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Saeed Al Kalbani, the Minister of Social Development, Dr. Ali Al-Bimani the head of SQU, Mohammed Al-Balushi the college’s dean, and some college members.
