Turkish envoy to Oman marks Republic Day, bids adieu

Muscat: Turkey’s Ambassador to Oman, Uğur Doğan used the occasion of the 93rd Republic Day celebrations of Turkey to say goodbye to Oman, as he will be leaving the country soon, after having fulfilled his duties here.
“Since my tenure in office will end soon, I would like to take this opportunity to say goodbye. After a most pleasant time in this beautiful and peaceful country, while returning to the Foreign Ministry in Ankara, I wish you all my best.
“As the 9th Turkish Ambassador in Oman, since the day I assumed my duties here, I have truly felt the unique nature of this special relationship between our two nations and countries in all my engagements with the local and national authorities and dignitaries in the Sultanate.”
Sincere thanks
“I, therefore, wish to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and his Government for the benevolence and cooperative spirit extended not only to me and my Embassy, but also to the Turkish community here in Oman which firmly stands as a human and cultural bridge between our two nations.”
Close at heart
On the celebrations of the 93rd Republic Day of Turkey in Muscat, which was held under the patronage of Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry in Oman, Ambassador Uğur Doğan first delivered a speech on behalf of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, president of the Republic of Turkey and then addressed the gathering.
“Today at its 93rd birthday, I am proud to represent with utmost honour the Republic of Turkey in the Sultanate of Oman, the two friendly and brotherly countries, which may be geographically apart but close at heart. Turkey and Oman have been enjoying a warm and brotherly relationship for more than 500 years.
“It has been very pleasing for me to see that pursuant to the common political will and desire of the two sides, intensive and multi-dimensional relations in all fields between Turkey and Oman are constantly developing.”
Observed annually of October 29, this day commemorates the foundation of the Republic of Turkey in 1923, when Mustafa Kemal declared that the country a republic, and is marked with parades, cultural programs and other events. He also spoke about progress in bilateral relations witnessed between the two countries in the past few years.
According to Ambassador Doğan, the joint trade volume between Oman and Turkey has remained at the level of U.S. $400 million despite the law oil prices, poor performance of the world economy and the crises in the region.
