Oman Oil announces support for professional sports clubs

Muscat: Inspired by its dedication to care beyond fueling, Oman Oil Marketing Company organised a special event on Monday to launch ‘Waqoodona’, an initiative designed to help support professional sports clubs in the Sultanate. Organised under the theme Empowering Our Champions, ‘Waqodoona’ comes as part of an agreement signed with the Ministry of Sports Affairs to support clubs across Oman with OMR 44,000 in fuel cards.
Waqodoona’s inaugural ceremony was held at the Grand Hyatt Muscat and was attended by a delegation from the Ministry of Sports Affairs, led by Sheikh Saad bin Mohammed bin Said Al Mardouf Al Saadi, the Minister of Sports Affairs.
Representatives from 44 different sports clubs were also present alongside senior management and board members from Oman Oil Marketing Company including Sheikh Salim bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of the Board.
“Supporting Omani youth and nurturing their talents has been at the heart of our community outreach objectives from the outset,” Sheikh Salim said.
“Athletics and sports play an important role in developing our youth, helping them learn the importance of rules, teamwork and sportsmanship. Through Waqodoona, we are laying the foundation for more aspiring athletes in the Sultanate to fulfill their dreams.”
Omar Ahmed Qatan, CEO of Oman Oil Marketing Company, said: “We believe that sports has the power to unite people and inspire our youth. These qualities are what drove us to launch Waqodoona. This initiative is our way of taking support for athletics to the next level and subsequently empowering the next generation with social values that can guide them to be all they can be.”
Waqoodona is part of Oman Oil Marketing Company’s long-standing commitment to support local communities through sports and outreach programmes. Throughout the years, the company has organised a number of events, including the omanoil Football Tournament for Muscat Schools and the third annual National Day Football Championship.
