Russell Peters steals show in Oman

Russell Peters is no doubt a phenomenon because one needs to have a natural talent for bringing cultures together through comedy and he just did that on Monday night in front of a completely packed audiences from a multitude of nationalities at the Shangri La Barr Al Jissah.
During his “Almost Famous World Tour”, which lasted for one hour and thirty minutes, the world renowned comedian allowed audiences to laugh at their own cultures’ quirks and eccentricities.
Playing off the multicultural card, an affluent Peters whose stardom has turned him into a Forbes-listed comic with a worldwide fan base clearly won the hearts of the people in Muscat. Peters’ expected Indian-based jokes dominated the show, and a large Indian turn-out was seen in general.
I have seen many comedians make the audience talk of course to bring out the jokes but this kind of stand-up was something new. Peters spend his 90 minutes sharing somebody-or-other’s life with the audience. For example, his discovery of a Columbian man who identified himself as a doctor launched him into a hilarious impromptu sketch in which an airline attendant asks if there’s a doctor on board to deal with a passenger who’s having a heart attack. The psychiatrist agrees to talk to the passenger and get to the bottom of his belief that he’s having a heart attack.
Although the comedian’s jokes did require some sense of acceptance and open-mindedness from the crowd, he did display a deep knowledge of Oman. Earlier, popular New York based comedian Gregg Rogell too enthralled the audience for 30 minutes before Peters stormed the stage.
“We didn’t know how quickly the time had passed. We laughed our hearts out, said Arun Visruthan who purchased the OMR 75 VIP ticket to just watch Peters live. “I am his big fan and I missed his previous show in Muscat and I didn’t want to miss this at any cost,” said Arun who was far impressed with the 45-year-old’s performance on stage.
Overall, Peters’ performance was brilliant and it certainly made up for the long wait that audiences had to go through to get their tickets validated, enter through the packed gates and wait in line for refreshments and food. The event was presented by Alive Entertainment and Hi FM.
