Muscat: Two Omanis died in a road accident in Barka on Saturday morning, an official from the Royal Oman Police (ROP) said.

"Five cars were involved in the accident. The accident took place at around 5:27am on Saturday," the ROP official added.
The accident has also resulted in a number of injuries, the official added.
According to latest data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), accident rates have dropped significantly so far, compared with last year.
Since the beginning of 2016 and until the end of September, accident rates slumped 38.8 per cent according to the data, where 3,062 accidents were registered in 2016, down from 5,007 until the end of September 2015.
In September, 303 accidents were recorded, compared with 326 and 333 registered in August and July, respectively.
Injuries have also dropped considerably by 26.6 per cent, with 2,113 being recorded between January and September-end 2016, falling from 2,879 last year.
Meanwhile, 140 Omanis were injured during the month, compared with 212 in August of this year; 42 expatriates were injured in September, slipping from 75 in August.
Although death rates are decreasing, a 1.2 per cent increase from the beginning of 2016 until the end of September was recorded, compared with 2015 figures. 508 were registered dead until the end of September 2016, compared with 502 during the same period last year.
In September, 30 Omanis were declared dead in accidents, compared with 37 in August 2016.
Expatriates still registered an overall rise in death resulting from traffic accidents, registering a 12 per cent spike compared with last year. Total deaths from the beginning of 2016 until the end of September were pegged at 187, compared with 167 during the same period last year. During September alone, 19 expatriates died, 2 deaths less than the number reported in August.
