Azzan Al Rumhy is role model for young golfers in Oman, says OGC chief

Muscat: As the game of golf rapidly grows across the Asia-Pacific region there’s no wonder it is attracting some of the top amateurs in the world rankings, as seen at the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship held in South Korea from October 6 to 9. Representing the Sultanate in the field was Oman’s top golfer Azzan Al Rumhy.
Commenting on the championship experience, Azzan said: “After representing Oman at the last championships in Melbourne this tournament is definitely one of the highlights of my career. The standard of game play is exceptional and I am sure we will see someone from this field wearing a Green Jacket or lifting the Claret Jug in the near future.”
Now back home in Oman, Azzan hopes to use the experience in the upcoming 36th Arab Golf Championships which will be played for the first time in Oman at the Ghala Golf Club.
Chairman of the Oman Golf Committee, Mundhir Al Barwani commented: “Azzan has become a strong role model for young golfers in Oman and now we need to find the next generation. Seeing Azzan travelling to places like Australia and South Korea to play golf should entice the younger golfers to work hard to become the best in Oman, then the region and hopefully the world.”
“To see the talent coming through the Asia Pacific region it is time for an Arab golfer to be competing with the best. Oman is still in its infancy but times are exciting with both the Challenge Tour and MENA Tour Grand Finals being played in Oman and now hosting the Arab Golf Championships. There is a lot of support for the game in Oman and the platform established to become a recognised golf tourist destination”.
