Oman to use DRS in 5-nation series

Muscat: Oman will enhance its pedigree as a host of international cricket events when for the first time Decision Review System (DRS) will be added to the coverage of 5-Nation T20 Series it is going to hold on its home grounds in Amerat from October 5 to 10.

An international broadcasting firm has been assigned the task to ensure live telecast of all the T20 games which could be viewed on Oman Cricket’s website and its Youtube channel.

“We are going to have the referral system in operation during the forthcoming 5-nation series and it will review umpiring decisions on run outs, stumpings and no balls. Unfortunately, this arrangement does not include review of LBW and caught behind decisions but we hope to add that too, in future,” said Duleep Mendis, Chief Operating Officer, Oman Cricket (OC).

“We will have four cameras on either side of the wicket in line with the batting and bowling crease. This is going to be another feather in Oman Cricket’s cap as I think no Associate member country has put this into operation so far,” he added.

Mendis said the DRS system had been used in some domestic T20 games first and it was quite helpful in the correct decision-making.

“We are also seeing this referral system operating in Oman team’s practice matches which we are playing this week. I am sure DRS will add value to cricket coverage in Oman and lead to better decision-making in the events we are going to host,” he said.
