Muscat: Low-cost airline operation comes as part of the enhanced activity planned for the regional airports in the Sultanate for promoting tourism and business and for linking these airports to the shipping ports, said Dr. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Za’abi, CEO of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA).
He added that Oman Air and low cost airline model of operation is different because the low-cost carrier will provide services that are different from those provided by Oman Air.
He pointed out that all routes are open for the budget airline and that there are agreements for the transfer of open spaces between the Sultanate and the GCC countries except for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
There are also agreements with a number of countries and they are available to them.
He added that over the past period, PACA concentrated on identifying an operator that will create job opportunities for Omanis and SMEs.
The proposal of the company that won the license included creating 460 direct jobs and many indirect jobs in catering, aviation maintenance and other aviation related fields.
