Muscat: Sixty-nine per cent of the Sultanate’s population (Omanis and expats) use their personal vehicles to get to their destinations- whether they are drivers or passengers.

The survey was conducted by the National Center for Statistics and Information on the satisfaction of beneficiaries of land transport services users .
Seventeen per cent of the road users use taxis to reach their destinations and 9 per cent use employers’ buses and marginal percentage use other transportation means.
Personal vehicles
Ninety-four per cent of Omanis use personal vehicles to reach their destinations; 57 per cent as drivers and 37 per cent as passengers. 49 per cent of expats use personal vehicles; 31 per cent as drivers and 18 per cent as passengers.
The survey pointed out that 27 per cent of expats use taxis compared to 4 per cent by Omanis.
Gender-wise, 19 per cent of males and 13 per cent of females use taxis. 21 per cent of those having less than secondary education use taxis.
62 per cent of the road users use personal vehicles to reach their work compared to 13 per cent for other purposes, such as shopping and 12 per cent for visiting families and friends.
Some also use personal vehicles for study, special family errands, hospital, recreation and tourism.
