Oman’s Fatma Al Nabhani loses in doubles first round at Lagos tourney

Muscat: Omani star Fatma Al Nabhani and her Ukrainian partner Valeriya Strakhova failed to clear the first hurdle in the doubles competition of the $25,000 ITF Pro Circuit Governor’s Cup in Lagos, Nigeria on Tuesday.
In their first round match, Fatma and Valeriya despite losing the first set fought bravely against Indian duo of Kyra Shroff and Dhruthi Venugopal. Though they managed to win the second set, the Indian pair proved too good in the match tie-break and went on to win the match with final scoreline of 6-3, 3-6 (10-7).
Fatma’s challenge in the singles, however, continues on Wednesday when the Omani girl takes on French eighth seed Harmony Tan in her second round match.
In the singles first round match played on Monday, Fatma defeated India’s Prathana Thombare 6-4, 6-3.
Fatma also took part in the first Governor’s Cup last week, when her singles challenge ended in quarterfinals while Fatma and Valeriya lost in the semifinals of the doubles.
