Hikaa: Royal Oman Police warns against entering ocean in two governorates

Muscat: People should stay away from the ocean in South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta Governorates, according to the Royal Oman Police.

A statement by the ROP read: "The Royal Oman Police asks citizens and residents living near the coast in South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta to not go into the sea in the coming hours."

"This is because Hikaa has deepened and developed into a category 1 cyclone, with a windspeed of between 65-75 knots. Furthermore, the cyclone is approaching Oman's coasts," the statement added.

The Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance has just announced that Hikaa has developed from a tropical storm to a cyclone.

A statement by the D.G of Meteorology of PACA read: "Hikaa has deepened from a tropical storm to a category 1 cyclone, with a windspeed of around 65-70 knots."

Until yesterday, Hikaa had been expected to reach Oman as a tropical storm carrying between 50-80 milimeters of rain, which would fall over South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta in the afternoon today.
