Three arrested in Oman for scamming woman out of property

Muscat: Three people in Oman have been arrested for tricking a woman out of a piece of land she owned by giving her an fraudulent cheque as payment for her land.

According to a statement by the Royal Oman Police, "The victim had offered to sell a piece of residential land on a mobile application. Seeing this advertisement, the three accused got into contact with her and they gave her a cheque without any credit in the bank. The cheque was issued to her to forego any rights to the land."

The arrests were made by the Department for Combating Financial Crimes, which represented the Directorate General for Queries and Investigations.

The Royal Oman Police also warned people in Oman to be aware of scams which involve cheques that have not been approved by the bank.

"The Royal Oman Police warns of these actions, and it calls on people in Oman to immediately report these crimes if they are victims or suspect that a crime has been committed. They can report the crime by using the directorate general's hotline 80077444 or by heading to the nearest police station."
