Ministry of Health notices increase in bogus herbal medicines in Oman

Muscat: Instances of fake herbal medicines and health products in the Omani market have been increasing, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry has cautioned people in Oman against many of the products, which are being promoted through social media.

A statement by the MOH read: "The Ministry of Health has recently noticed the increasing cases of trading and selling health and herbal medicines and formulations, as well as promoted through social media. These health and herbal medicines and formulations are being promoted by fake allegations about them they being safe and natural herbal products and do not cause any health risks.

"This violates clauses and provisions of the Regulation the Profession of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Establishments Law issued by Royal Decree No. 35/2015," added the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry, analysis of these products has shown that the products marketed on social media do contain chemicals despite being labelled as natural.

"Most of these products are being analysed and assessed to verify the contents, and most of the results show that they contain chemicals without referring to or mentioning within the formulae and what these chemicals contain. This is considered commercial fraud and exposes the promoter of these products to legal liability," the statement added.

"The Ministry of Health urges all citizens and residents to not succumb to these products, but to purchase medications from licenced sources according to the medical instructions to ensure health and safety for all," added the ministry.
