Muscat: An Indian expat living in Oman has finished among the top three at the recently-held Mrs. India Empress of the Nation beauty pageant.

Kamalpreet Mongia, who hails from Delhi but relocated to Oman in 2004 after her marriage, finished the competition as the second-runner up at the pageant, after deciding to apply for it in May 2019, at the suggestion of her friends.

Speaking to Times of Oman, she said, “The Mrs. India Empress of the Nation is well known pageant in India conducted by DIVA Pageant in Pune, India. Karl and Anjana Mascarenhas are the managing directors of this pageant. “I heard about this pageant through one of my friends and Facebook played an important role in this.

“I applied for the contest by filling in a registration form,” she added. “I applied for it in the month of May 2019. It was an online procedure. They arranged for online auditions through video calling and I was selected as one of the finalists for the pageant.”

A number of different events were held as a part of the pageant, and in addition to preparing herself for them, Kamalpreet also had to ensure she went on a strict diet so that she looked her very best while on stage.

Her performance in the talent round, though, was a tad different as compared to what some of the others put on show.

“There were various rounds in this pageant, and they included the talent round, an introduction round, a ramp walk in traditional as well as in western attire, and a question-and-answer round,” she explained.

“I started preparing for the talent round as soon as I was selected. I chose to perform a zombie act, which was the extreme opposite of the beauty showcase they expected. “I have, however, been following a healthy diet and exercise regime for the last two or three years,” added Kamal.

“I decided to direct more focus towards my diet and exercise under the supervision of professionals.”

Preparing for a beauty pageant can be physically and mentally challenging, and Kamalpreet was grateful for the moral and emotional support her husband, friends and children provided her in the build-up to the event.

“My husband supported me completely in this journey, starting all the way from the opening photoshoot to the finale, which was the last round of the pageant,” she recalled.

“My daughters were of great support to me and were my emotional pillars. My sister Jaspreet and my brother-in-law also helped me a lot. My best friend Anchal Kapoor was also an integral part of this journey.
