Muscat: Royal Oman Police (ROP) has arrested two Omanis for drug trafficking in North Batinah, who attempted to flee after being spotted by authorities.
In a statement online, ROP said, "The Department of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control, led by North Batinah police, arrested two citizens on charges of trafficking, possession, and abuse of drugs in the state of Saham.
"The two were dealing in possession, trafficking, and abuse of narcotics by coordinating with a person of Asian nationality residing abroad. Police were able to observe the two people selling drugs, who attempted to escape by a car after being spotted by the control team."
The items were seized and suspects referred to the authorities for investigation.
Three other expats were arrested in a separate case, after they were caught smuggling khat into Oman. Coast Guard officers led by Dhofar Police arrested "three people of Arab nationality on charges of smuggling narcotics for the purpose of trading in Wilayat Mirbat," ROP said.
