Muscat: What does a person miss the most when leaving home to study abroad?
It is undoubtedly, home cooked meals.

But an Omani and a Kuwaiti engineering student have launched a YouTube channel to teach students how to cook Arabian meals.
The duo launched their cooking show ‘Falah Kitchen’ in October 2014 in the United States.
“I thought that it will be a great idea to teach our fellow students how to cook their own meals, especially since Falah, the Kuwaiti student, is a very creative cook,” Qais Al Qassabi, the 24-year-old Omani director of the show, said.

“It took me a while to convince Falah to appear before the camera and host the show, luckily he eventually agreed after a period of hesitation,” Al Qassabi added.
Most of their 28 educational clips are only five minutes long.
“We get to learn video making, cooking and, the best part, eating,” he added.
The cooking lessons include instructions on how to make a fruit tart, Kofta, Kushari, Shawarma and more traditional dishes.
But their biggest hits were two episodes about Karak tea and Mindazi, a traditional Omani delicacy.

Together, the two videos received around 18,000 views and the channel has 1,247 subscribers till date.
“At first, we thought that the show will be seen by US students only, but I was surprised to see people from Saudi Arabia and other countries following us,” Al Qassabi revealed.
After their success, Al Qassabi decided to launch the second season of the show in March 2015, adding English subtitles, background music and put in more effort into making the episodes.
But Al Qassabi graduated from Oklahoma State University last May and is now in the Sultanate.
However, Falah is still in Oklahoma and the show has been cancelled since then.
But the Omani national said he still believes that a cooking show in Oman will work if he finds a good chef.
“So for now, the kitchen is closed until further notice,” he said.
