Holidays are not just about going to far flung destinations, it’s also time to satiate your gluttony and indulge in some mouth-watering delicacies which we often miss in our day to day busy lives. So as soon as the week-long Eid holidays rolled in I thought why not get into the indulgence mood. The malls remained packed to the brim more during the evening and on one such mall-hopping spree as I made my way through the crowd to reach the food court at the Avenues Mall, my eyes fell on the signage Arabian Grill House.
For someone like me who most of the time ends up with a quick burger bite when hungry, the thought of having Arabian Grill pepped up my holiday mood. So much that those eating memories are still fresh even a month later.
At Arabian Grill House there’s lot to choose from, but we finally settled on the Arabian Grill House Mixed Grill. It was a platter with two chicken koftas, one beef kofta, one beef tikka, one shish tawook, some grilled veggies, and khubus. The meat, marinated with local spices, was very juicy and succulent. Served with a bowl of French fries with Cajun spices it was a sure show stopper for us as the delectable smoked flavours was present in every bite. At OMR7.200 the portions were large and sufficient for two. We also ordered the Fattoush salad which had cucumber, tomatoes, radish, lettuce, capsicum, water cress, lemon juice, olive oil, sumac powder, fried Arabian bread, and pomegranate seeds with pomegranate syrup drizzled on top. The sweet and tangy flavours of the salad was a great accompaniment.
For those who cannot do without the quintessential shawarma, in which slivers of chicken, fries and cucumber are bathed in a pool of garlic mayonnaise and are sandwiched between soft khubus, Shawarma Arabian Grill House is certainly a not to miss item. Unlike the street versions that we are so used to having, Shawarma Arabian Grill House is a mixed plate of chicken and beef open shawarma with French fries, Arabian pickle, garlic sauce and their own hot tomato sauce. Priced at OMR5.5 it will surely give you the perfect shawarma experience. The other items on grill include shish tawook, lamb chops, tikka meat, and kababs.
With shawarma on my mind I remembered my visit to Camilia Restaurant and the mixed grill served there. An assortment of meat chargrilled to perfection was a real treat. Priced at OMR5 for a medium platter I fell for the portions. The Family Sultan Kabab which is one metre long and priced at OMR18 is something to look forward to.
The Istanbuli Restaurant in Al Khuwair, famous for their grills, shawarmas, arrayees, and their garlic dip is to die for. The mixed grill small platter with a lot of meat variety is priced at OMR4.500. With so many Arabian grill options in town why wait for the holidays? Afterall, indulgence has never been time bound.
