Colonel Nasser Bousnina, previously the post revolution acting Commander Benghazi Benina AFB, has become the first ever Libyan Air Force officer in history to qualify from the prestigious US Air War College in Montgomery, Alabama in 2016. The colonel rose to prominence as a pilot in Libya during the months of armed struggle against Muammar Gaddafi regime in early 2011. He led a defection of air force officers in the east of the country solely to defend the Benghazi air force base, Benina AFB, against newly emerging extremist enemies of Libya. He became something of a revolutionary hero for the decisive role he played in turning the military establishment against the then Air Force commander-in-chief and against extremists, thereby shifting the balance of power in the East. Following minor surgery in the United States and after a short period of recuperation, the colonel expects to be operationally back in Libya in early November.
