Expat fined, his shop shuttered for selling used tyres in Oman

Muscat: An expat has been fined OMR3,000 and his has been shuttered, for selling used tyres, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) announced on Monday.

The Preliminary court in Rustaq issued a judgement against the expat that he would be fined and his shop shut down for a period of six months.

The case began when the administration received a complaint from a consumer who said that a store sold him used tyres. An employee from the administration visited the establishment and confirmed the allegation.

PACP said, "A number of used tyres that were on display and dates were seized and destroyed. The man was charged for violating the consumer protection law."

The Court of First Instance in Ibra recently issued a judgment against four defendants for violating Article 7 of the Consumer Protection Law issued by Royal Decree No. 66/2014. The court issued a judgment of conviction and a fine of OMR 3,000 in addition to destroying the seized goods and closing down the shop for a period of six months.
