10 stranded in Dimaniyat Islands’ waters rescued by Royal Oman Police

Muscat: Ten people stranded in Dimaniyat Islands’ waters were rescued by Royal Oman Police (ROP), the authority tweeted on its official twitter handle.
“The rescued people are in good health,” the ROP tweet read.
The Ad Dimaniyat Islands are a protected area in Oman. The Nature Reserve is located in Wilayat Al Seeb in the Muscat Governorate and lies about 18 kilometres off the coast of Barka.
It is composed of nine islands with a total area of 100 hectares.
Recently, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) has banned visiting or camping in the Al Dimaniyat islands until the end of October.
“From May 1 until October end, no visitor will be allowed in Al Dimaniyat natural reserve, as it is the nesting season of birds and turtles,” MECA said in a statement issued in May.
However, of the strip of nine islands, two (Al Jabal Al Kabeer and Jun) islands will be open for tourists to camp throughout the year.
According to Eng. Sulaiman Al Akhzami, Director General of Nature Conservation at MECA, more than 7,000 people had visited the islands last year.
