Get real Indonesian flavour at 3-day cultural extravaganza in Oman

Muscat: A three-day extravaganza, starting from today has been planned by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Muscat, to bring an authentic Indonesian experience to the people of Oman.
The event, named INAFair 2016, will commence at the Indonesian Ambassador’s residence with a fashion show dedicated to Tenun Ikat (woven clothes), a unique pattern of clothing, which originated in Nusa Tenggara Timur, a province in the eastern part of Indonesia. This event will be for special invitees only, according to a statement from the embassy.
The next programme, however, will be open to the public for free, as it will take place at the Rooftop Garden of Muscat Grand Mall (First Floor), which can be accessed easily from the central and south-wing elevators.
At INAFair, visitors can buy an assortment of Indonesian products, such as batik and woven clothes, jewellery, oud and other handicrafts, while tasting an array of Indonesian food, such as satay, fried rice, chicken noodles, meatball and pepes (food wrapped in banana leaves).
Guests will also be entertained by a variety of Indonesian shows.
Dances, songs, fashion shows, a children’s carnival and other performances from different regions in Indonesia will be presented for this festival, thanks to support from the Indonesian diaspora in Oman, MedcoEnergi, Etihad Airways and British School Muscat, whose students will be presenting a special performance of Gamelan (Indonesian traditional instruments).
In addition, visitors will get a chance to win lucky draw prizes, which will be announced from time to time throughout the event.
Local businessmen can also explore prospects for partnerships with their Indonesian counterparts. A total of 16 entrepreneurs from Indonesia will be present at the venue, bringing opportunities in the sectors of food, clothing, oud and jewellery.
