The internet is flooded with eye makeup tutorials, and you can’t wait to try the new smoky look from your
favourite beauty blogger. So here are a few helpful tips that’ll make following those tutorials significantly easier
(and it’ll make a whole lot of sense too).
1 Get your brushes right
What is the most essential thing for a flawless application? Well, the right applicator, of course. Instead of relying on the little brush that comes with your eye shadow kit, invest in some quality brushes as different strokes need different types of brushes.
2 Light colours
Light colours will brighten you up. Adding a few dashes of white shadow to the corner of your eyes will make it look like you did catch up on sleep, even if you didn’t.
3 Don’t forget to prime
If you don’t skip primer when applying foundation to your face, you shouldn’t forget primer when doing your eyes either. It keeps the colours in place and makes it last longer. Tip: If you’re out of primer, use a little bit of your foundation instead.
4 Learn to use tape
For that clean line on the sides of your eyes, use a strip of regular tape (that won’t irritate your skin) and stick it diagonally across the outer corners of the eyes. Once you are done with the makeup, peel it off for a smooth line.
5 Dark to light rule
Love the assortment of colours on the palette (and have a slight desire to use as many as you can) but don’t know where to start? Remember the golden rule – the darkest colours go near the eyelashes and the hues get lighter as you move away.
6 Eye shadow to brow
You can use your eye shadow to fill in your brows too. Pick a shade that is closest to if not exactly the same colour as your eyebrows. If you’re aiming for something bolder, go for one shade darker but never more than that. Tip: You can also use this trick to make your hair look fuller by dabbing some down the parting.
7 Always have a base for shimmer
Never apply glittery eye shadows to the eyelid directly as it has a tendency to slip into the creases on your lids. If you are aiming for a slight shimmer without a pop of colour, use a nude eye shadow as a base.
8 Prevent fallout marks
Several makeup artists prefer doing the eye makeup first before getting to the rest of the face. If you’re not alright with the idea, opt for eye shields to prevent any colour smudges on already perfected skin.
9 Seal off with shadow
A great trick to make your eyeliner last longer is to dust some eye shadow over it. Just make sure it’s in the same shade.
10 Find your hues
Find eye shadows that compliment your skin tone. Browns, nudes, and champagne colours are shades that pretty much work for most skin tones.
