Muscat: There was a rise in the number of live births in the Sultanate in 2015 compared to 2014.
While 86,286 births occurred in 2015, including 79,926 of Omanis and of 6,360 expatriates, compared to 82,981 in 2014.
Omanis comprised 92.6 per cent of the total births, with an average of 10 live babies every hour while the number of death cases in 2015 stood at 8,167 according to latest figures issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The statistics showed that there were 44,301 male births, including 3,259 expat, comprising 51.2 per cent of the total expat births.
The number of Omani births increased by 32 per cent during 2010 until 2015, comprising 19,225 births.
The highest fertility percentage was recorded in the age category between 25 years and 29 years, comprising 33.2 per cent in 2014 and 32.7 per cent in 2015.
The birth rate of high risk pregnancy age (more than 35 years) rose to 20.4 per cent in 2015 compared to 1.2 per cent in 2014.
At the governorates level, Governorate of Muscat and Governorate of North Al Batinah registered the highest number of births, comprising 42.6 per cent of the total births while Governorate of Musandam and Governorate of Al Wusta recorded the lowest of 1.8 per cent.
Births among expatriates were the highest in Governorate of Muscat, comprising 54.6 per cent while Governorates of Al Wusta and Musandam were the lowest by 1.4 per cent compared to the other governorates.
The number of mortalities among the Omanis comprised 83.7 per cent of the total deaths in the Sultanate, including 4,061 males, comprising 59.4 per cent while the expatriates’ mortalities comprised 16.3 per cent of the total deaths in the Sultanate. Male expatriates comprised 82.3 per cent of the total expatriate deaths in the Sultanate to stand at 101 deaths.
The monthly mortality rate in 2015 stood at 681 while the daily rate stood at 22 death cases, comprising an increase when compared to 2014, which stood at 652 death cases monthly and about 21.4 death cases daily.
The Governorate of North Al Batinah recorded the highest number of the death cases, comprising 23.3 of the total death cases, followed by the Governorate of Muscat by 17.2 per cent while the Governorates of Musandam and Al Wusta witnessed the lowest in the number of death cases, comprising 2.2 per cent of the total death cases. The Governorate of Muscat witnessed 43.6 per cent of the total expat deaths while the Governorate of Musandam comprised 1 per cent.
