CCTV footage helps police arrest thief in Oman

Muscat: An Omani, who stole toys and apparel from shops in Muttrah Souq on Monday, has been arrested by the police.
The shop is located next to the police station in the front of the souq and the thief was arrested after the shop owners handed over CCTV footage showing the theft to the police.
“On Monday, we closed the shop for a lunch break at around 1pm. When we came back, we found that some of the stuff kept outside was missing.
“Usually, we don’t keep everything inside and go. So, we checked the CCTV visuals and found an Omani national picking up the toys and taking them away in a garbage bag,” the shop
owner said.
“Without any delay, we downloaded the recording and handed it over to police. The police team tracked down the thief promptly.”
Gold stolen
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, police said a gang of robbers, who stole gold worth OMR1.2million from jewellery stores in Muttrah, were arrested. According to the police, the gang used blowtorches to gain access to the stores before raiding them during night time by breaking in; they later smelted the gold in an apartment in Muscat and were planning to smuggle it out of the country.
