Oman seeks to replace OMR 18.7 million mango import gap through targeted investments

Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has announced a strategic plan to boost domestic mango production and localise the crop's value chain between 2026 and 2030.

Dr. Hamdan bin Salem Al Wahaibi, Director General of Agricultural Development, outlined that the Sultanate aims to expand cultivated mango land to 10,300 acres and elevate annual production to nearly 44,785 tons, generating an estimated local market value of OMR 17 million. Designed to capitalise on an existing import gap of 46,211 tons valued at OMR 18.7 million, the Ministry will introduce private sector investment opportunities in 2026 spanning seedling propagation, modern irrigation, cold chain logistics, and food processing.
