Muscat: Starting October 3, Dubai-based Emirates airline will charge a fee for reserving seats in advance of the usual check-in procedure, currently 48 hours before take-off.
The airline has confirmed that the fee will be applicable only for select seats where passengers would like to book their seat before the 48-hour check-in window opens for a flight.
"Emirates can confirm the introduction of a minimal charge for those looking to select their Economy Class seat in advance, for tickets issued on or after October 3, 2016,” a spokesperson for Emirates said in a statement sent to Times of Oman.
The charge is only applicable on Special and Saver fares in Economy Class and will vary depending on the duration of the flight.
Children below the age of two and accompanying passengers on the same booking will be exempted from the fee.
“This charge is also not applicable once online check-in opens, which is 48hrs before flight departure. At this stage, seat selection is free,” the spokesperson added.
