Muscat: The National Museum, represented by the Bayt al-Greiza Department, launched its “Omani Character” summer programme on Sunday at Bayt al-Greiza. The programme aims to instill dignity and decorum and foster pride in national identity, while promoting Omani character and authentic customs among children and young people through a cultural experience that combines learning, practical application and creativity.
The programme will be held in two stages. The first stage, taking place from 16 to 20 August 2026, is designated for children aged 5–7, while the second stage, from 23 to 26 August 2026, will cater to young people aged 8–12. Its activities have been designed to suit the respective age groups of the participants, enabling them to learn through practice, experience and discovery.
The programme explores a number of practices associated with Omani character, including the etiquette and traditions associated with welcoming and bidding farewell to guests, in accordance with Omani heritage, as well as the protocols of banquets and hospitality. It also introduces national symbols, while exploring the artistic aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy, decorative motifs and royal gardens. These themes are explored through a series of art workshops, practical activities and interactive experiences that connect participants with elements of Omani culture in practical contexts relevant to their interests.
The programme also includes interactive activities that foster a spirit of adventure and discovery, including treasure hunts and map-reading activities. These enable participants to practice what they have learnt in a lively environment, transforming Bayt al-Greiza into an educational and cultural space through which they can explore aspects of Omani heritage and its social and behavioural values.
