Salalah: The proceedings of the 25th Annual General Conference on "Government Readiness for a Sustainable Future" opened on Tuesday in the Wilayat of Salalah. The event is organised by the Ministry of Labour and the Arab Administrative Development Organisation (ARADO) of the Arab League.
The opening of the two-day conference was held under the auspices of Dr. Mahad Said Ba'Owain, Minister of Labour, in the presence of several officials, representatives of government entities and the private sector, and representatives of the Arab Administrative Development Organisation of the Arab League.
Held as part of the activities of the Labour Forum 2026 in Dhofar Governorate, the conference discusses ways to enhance government readiness for future transformations, keep pace with economic, technological, and environmental changes, and achieve sustainable development. It also explores the role of digital transformation, innovation, and modern governance in developing government work, reviewing international experiences and practices in sustainability and government management, and enhancing the exchange of expertise among government, regional, and international entities.
The conference focuses on building more flexible and efficient government institutions capable of responding to future challenges, as well as deploying modern technologies and data to support decision-making and improve the quality of public services and policies.
Nasser Salim Al Hadhrami, Director General of Labour in Dhofar Governorate, explained in a speech that organising the conference comes as part of the Labour Forum activities under the theme "A Nation's Vision: Empowerment and Action," within the framework of the Ministry of Labour's efforts to enhance government work readiness to keep pace with future transformations and examine the challenges and opportunities associated with building more flexible, efficient, and sustainable governments.
He said that the conference forms a platform for exchanging Arab and international experiences and expertise, and discussing sustainable government policies, digital governance, strategic foresight, artificial intelligence, and the development of government competencies.
He pointed to several ministry initiatives, including the Strategic Human Resources Planning Project in the Government Sector, the National Occupational Competency Framework, the Human Resource Management and Development Matrix, the Institutional Innovation and Change Management System, and the Artificial Intelligence Initiative in Government Environments, contributing to developing institutional performance and building future-ready government capacities.
In a related context, Dr. Nasser Al Hatlan Al Qahtani, Director General of the Arab Administrative Development Organisation of the Arab League, affirmed in a speech that rapid changes in technology, artificial intelligence, and economic and climate shifts dictate that governments develop more flexible and efficient working models, and enhance their ability to foresee the future and manage risks.
He noted that the conference represents a platform for exchanging expertise and knowledge regarding the readiness of Arab governments for sustainability requirements, and discussing issues of digital transformation, governance, artificial intelligence, and innovation.
He emphasised the importance of Oman Vision 2040 as a model for future planning based on governance, sustainability, and building national capabilities, stressing that government readiness is not limited to technical infrastructure, but also requires qualified leaders, agile institutions, advanced digital infrastructure, and effective governance systems.
