Oman's GDP down 12% in the first quarter of 2016: NCSI

Muscat: Oman’s gross domestic products (GDP) decreased by 12.2 per cent by the end of first quarter of 2016 against the corresponding quarter of 2015.
By the end of March, 2016, the GDP stood at OMR5, 642,300,000 compared to OMR6,423,900,000 as at the end of March 2015, according to official statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information ( NCSI).
The oil sector registered a decrease of 34 per cent at OMR1, 550,500,000 at the end of first quarter 2016 against OMR2, 348,700,000 registered at the end of March 2015. Of this, crude oil registered a decrease of 38.9 per cent at the end of first quarter (OMR1,238,900,000) against OMR2,027,700,000 in the same quarter of 2015. The natural gas sector decreased by 2.9 per cent (OMR311,600,000) by end of first quarter 2016 against OMR321,000,000 during the same quarter 2015.
Non-oil sector stood at OMR4, 302,000,000, a fall of 2,4 per cent against the same period in 2015 (OMR4,406,500,000). Service sector stood at OMR2, 976,500,000, a fall of 2.3 per cent against the corresponding period of 2015 (OMR3,046, 000,000. Industrial sector for the first quarter 2016 reregistered a decrease of 4, 7 per cent against the same quarter of 2015 of OMR1, 258,800,000.
The manufacturing sector stood at OMR535,500,000 in the first quarter 2016, a decrease of 21.5 per cent against the same quarter 2015. Mining and quarry sector registered an rise of 12 per cent in first quarter 2016 against the same quarter in 2015.
Agriculture and fisheries sector registered an rise of 23.7 per cent (OMR125, 800,000) in the first quarter 2016 against the same quarter 2015 (OMR101, 700,000).
