UNITED NATIONS: India has announced that it will fund a new United Nations portal aimed at enhancing global Information and Communications Technology (ICT) security by helping bridge the capacity gap between developed and developing countries.
Speaking at the UN, India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, said the initiative will support countries, particularly in the Global South, in strengthening their cyber capabilities and resilience.
Harish stressed that the benefits of digital technologies can only be fully realised when backed by strong cybersecurity measures and the ability to respond to emerging cyber threats.
He said that scaled, demand-driven capacity-building in ICT is both practical and effective when supported by sustained political commitment, adding that the proposed portal will serve as a key platform for sharing knowledge, resources and best practices in global ICT security.
The initiative reflects India's continued efforts to promote inclusive digital development and strengthen international cooperation on cybersecurity under the UN framework.
