“Logistics and Supply Chain Management” Programme Enhances Sector Efficiency and Showcases the Latest Technologies

MUSCAT: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised the “Logistics and Supply Chain Management” programme in the Governorates of Muscat, South Al Batinah, and Al Buraimi. The programme brought together 53 trainees comprising business owners and professionals working in the trade, transport, manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution sectors during the period from 28 June to 16 July 2026. The programme aims to improve operational efficiency and inventory management across supply chains, reduce logistics costs, enhance service quality and product delivery speed, and promote the adoption of digital solutions and advanced technologies in logistics and supply chain management.

Mukhtar bin Abdullah Al Shukaili, Programme Manager of the “Logistics and Supply Chain Management” programme, said: “The programme represents a strategic step towards enhancing the efficiency of the logistics sector in the Sultanate of Oman and reinforcing its position as one of the key enablers of economic diversification and business competitiveness.” He added: “The programme focuses on building leadership and managerial capabilities that can enhance institutional performance and strengthen competitiveness in both local and international markets, thereby supporting the growth of the logistics sector and creating further sustainable investment and development opportunities for the national economy.”

For her part, Ibtisam bint Darwish Al Zaabi, Director of Majan Training Institute, said: “The programme targets business owners and seeks to empower them to develop their skills in managing their logistics projects, improve operational efficiency, and help them reduce costs.” She added that the institute contributed to implementing the programme by developing specialised training content, providing trainers with expertise in logistics and supply chain management, and overseeing the organisational and practical aspects of the programme to ensure that its objectives are achieved and that participants gain maximum benefit from the training modules.

Ali bin Salem Al Kalbani, a trainer specialising in logistics, delivered the training programme to participants, presenting the latest concepts in logistics and supply chain management. He also addressed the concept of logistics as the process of planning, implementing, and controlling the flow of goods, services, and information from the point of origin to the point of consumption. He reviewed the components of supply chains, beginning with suppliers, passing through production, storage, transportation, and distribution, and ending with the final customer. Al Kalbani also highlighted the role of the logistics sector in improving institutional performance by reducing transportation and storage costs, minimising waste, accelerating delivery processes, enhancing customer satisfaction, and strengthening organisations’ ability to enter new markets and address operational challenges.

Field Visits

The training programme was accompanied by field visits to a number of companies in the targeted governorates, with the aim of strengthening the practical component and linking theoretical knowledge with field applications. Participants visited Areej Vegetable Oils & Derivatives SAOG in Rusayl Industrial City in the Governorate of Muscat, Gulf Mushroom Products Company (Oman Mushroom) in the Governorate of South Al Batinah, and Mazoon Dairy Company in the Wilayat of Al Sunaynah in the Governorate of Al Buraimi.

During these visits, participants learned about the operational mechanisms adopted in logistics and supply chain management, as well as the stages of receiving, storing, and distributing products. They were also introduced to best practices in inventory management and the application of modern technological solutions to improve operational efficiency.

Five Specialised Training Programmes

It is worth noting that the “Logistics and Supply Chain Management” programme forms part of five specialised training programmes launched by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry to develop the skills and capabilities of the private sector across several key economic sectors, namely industry, tourism, agriculture, logistics, and mining. These programmes fall within the Chamber’s strategic direction, which is based on three main pillars: improving the business environment, expanding the base of economic diversification, and partnering in the economic development of the governorates, thereby contributing to the achievement of the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. The programmes include the Industrial Excellence and Export Programme, the National Sustainable Tourism Entrepreneurship Programme, the Model Farm Management Programme, the Logistics and Supply Chain Management Programme, and the Mining Project Management Programme.

The Chamber will implement the Mining Project Management training programme during the period from 26 July to 13 August 2026, targeting project managers in mining companies, entrepreneurs, and enterprises operating in the mining sector. The programme will be delivered in the Governorates of North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, and Al Dhahirah. It aims to equip participants with the skills to manage mining operations and related projects, promote environmental awareness and the culture of sustainable mining, increase efficiency in mining operations, and apply safety standards.
