The participation aims to cement the Sultanate of Oman's position as a leading destination for sports and adventure tourism, and to attract an increasing number of visitors from various international markets.
The race held in Swansea, United Kingdom, is among the premier Ironman events in Europe, drawing 2,651 participants representing 216 TriClub teams from around the world.
Meanwhile, the race held in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, witnessed the participation of 1,237 athletes from various countries, representing 146 international TriClub teams, with first-time participants accounting for 48.75 percent of the total competitors.
The significance of this participation lies in leveraging the media and promotional momentum generated by Ironman races globally, by highlighting the tourism assets of the Sultanate of Oman and showcasing the races it hosts throughout the year. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism's participation included the establishment of a promotional pavilion over four days, dedicated to introducing Oman's tourism destinations and experiences, and presenting the Ironman races hosted by the Sultanate of Oman in 2026.
The Ministry affirmed that its participation in international Ironman events falls within its efforts to achieve the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, through diversifying tourism products and enhancing event and sports tourism. This is intended to raise the competitiveness of the tourism sector and support its contribution to the national economy.
Furthermore, these participations contribute to raising international awareness of the Sultanate of Oman as a destination that combines diverse natural landscapes and unique sporting experiences, offering advanced tourism facilities, world-class resorts and hotels, in addition to authentic Omani hospitality. They also attract a growing number of international competitors, thereby boosting hotel occupancy rates and supporting various tourism-related activities and experiences, including transport, restaurants, and entertainment services.
In a related context, these events contribute to supporting small and medium enterprises operating in the tourism and service sectors, highlighting Oman's environmental and natural diversity, and transforming race courses into live promotional platforms for tourist sites.
